Fix Your Food Relationship
end the diet rollercoaster • enjoy food • feel better in your body (even during menopause)
This New Year’s Eve, instead of eating everything in sight that you’re never going to eat again (ya, right)—sugar, bread, alcohol, potato chips, and party cakes—stop for a second. What if you could fix your food relationship once and for all? What if every day you could enjoy food and feel better in your body?
Towards smooth sailing …
My food relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing. The photo above is from 2018, 15 years after my ED ended, five years after I stopped dieting and weighing myself, but still in my “action pants” so everything seemed fine. My sheath wedding dress from 2013 could no longer zip up the back but my peace of mind with food was worth it. I consider this Part 1 of healing my relationship with food: Mind.
Within a year of this photo, menopause hit, somewhat ironically right as I began to train with the co-founders of Intuitive Eating. Rather suddenly, it seemed, my action pants no longer fit—not just muffin top, but there’s no way the zipper will close! Reluctantly I passed the pants on to my daughter.
I didn’t feel good in my body. Was it disordered to want to lose weight?
When this girl was born, New Year’s Eve Day, 2002, my life changed. At first I was frustrated with the surrender involved, but concurrently, blown away by the love. Jane, honey, you mean the world to me.
Through my struggles and by God’s grace, over the past 22 years I have come to a place of peace and calm, joy and presence. In the past 7 months I’ve even lost weight, the 14 pounds that make all the difference with the action pants (which is thrilling!) Weight loss was never my goal but rather a happy outcome to coming closer to my body and how I want to feel. This is Part 2 of healing my relationship with food: Body; and it has required brutal honesty, courage, and trust.
